The Florida SuperCon is the ultimate convention for cosplayers and superhero fans alike. Running from July 4 to July 7 in Miami Beach, it’s the perfect long weekend getaway for people who enjoy the nerdier side of life. This year’s Florida SuperCon has a stellar featured guest list, including Star Trek’s George Takei, Nick Frost from Shaun of the Dead, Jason Isaacs from Harry Potter, Doctor Strange’s Benedict Wong, and Danielle Panabaker from The Flash.

The event will take up the entire 500,000 square foot Miami Beach Convention Center, and it will be jam-packed with exhibitors, craftspeople, vendors, and, of course, amazing cosplayers. There will also be several shows at the main stage, mostly consisting of panel Q&As, concerts, and costume competitions.

Since this event takes place on Miami Beach, you’ll want to plan a trip to Miami this summer. But there’s so much to do in Miami aside from attending the Florida SuperCon. In a perfect world, you should plan to stay a week or two there. Here are some tips for planning your Miami trip.

Booking a Cheap Flight to Miami

The first thing you need to do is find a cheap flight to Miami. To key to finding an affordable flight is to be flexible with your dates and times. The more dates you try, the more likely you’ll find a cheap flight. You also want to catch that deal as soon as it happens. Most cheap flights don’t stick around for long.

You can also take note of the airlines that fly in from Miami. If you have a favorite, then consider joining their loyalty or rewards program to save money on your flight. You can also book through your travel agent, who can use their software to find you the best deal that most customers can’t find when searching on their own.

Getting Around Miami

You also have to determine how you’re going to get to Florida SuperCon and the other attractions in the Miami area. Getting from Miami International Airport to your hotel and local beaches is relatively easy. You can take the Miami Beach bus, the Metrobus, the Metrotrail, or the Tri-Rail, which all connect to the airport and city for less than a ride-sharing service or taxi would cost. You’ll also avoid the crazy Miami traffic.

Service runs regularly throughout the day, well into the late night hours. You can also book private transportation to and from the airport to your hotel, or to SuperCon from your hotel. Taxi2Airport is one of the most convenient ways to get around in Miami. Not only is it affordable, but it’s super convenient to get to and from the airport without any hassles.

Plan Your Stay

There are plenty of accommodations in the Miami area. It’s all a matter of finding the right accommodation that fits your needs. Most travelers like to stay in South Beach, where they’re close to the cafes, nightclubs, and restaurants. It’s the perfect location if you’re more of a nightlife person.

But there are other hotels near Miami Convention Center if you’re attending more than one convention. The Hyatt Regency Miami is located close to downtown Miami, which is one of the hippest spots in town. Rooms have a great view overlooking the Miami River. Even better, you’ll be 10 minutes away from the Port of Miami, where you can get lost in the Coral Gables or the Wynwood Arts District. The Coral Gables is very beautiful, so if you want to be close by, check out this Coral Gables Miami Luxury Resort instead. You can even have a shopping trip at Brickell City Center or explore the culture of Little Havana.

The Four Seasons Hotel Miami is also located downtown and it’s close to the convention center. It towers 70 stories above the city, featuring amazing views and upscale accommodations. The in-house EDGE Steak & Bar offers unique cuisine showcasing fresh meats and seafood, and it’s one of the best restaurants in Miami in its own right.

What to Do

There are so many things to see and do in Miami. If you’re a beach bum, then you will love South Beach. It’s one of the best beaches to lay in the sun, swim in the ocean, and people-watch.

If you love the great outdoors, then you should head over to the Everglades National Park. This area is one of the largest swamps in Florida. It’s known for its alligators and airboat tours. A 5-hour airboat tour will get you up-close with Florida’s natural habitat.

Or, you can always visit the museums in Miami. It’s always best to learn about the history and culture of the destination you’re visiting. One of your first stops should be Ernest Hemingway’s Museum, especially if you’re a fan of his novels. Your next stops should include the Art Deco district of Miami and the Wynwood Walls art exhibit to get your art fix.

The Freedom Tower is one of the most incredible places to visit in all of Miami. This spot was built on Biscayne Boulevard and has become one of the city’s most iconic landmarks. Its original purpose was to shelter the immigrants who entered this country from Cuba.

What to Eat

Miami is known for its food, just like it’s known for its beaches and nightlife. Little Havana is the perfect place to enjoy authentic Cuban food and coffee. Another great area to eat is the Bayside Marketplace, which gives you a view of the ocean as you enjoy your lunch. There are plenty of eateries along Ocean Drive, some of which are expensive, and others that are worth the walk.
