What is Going on in the Gaming Console World Right Now

If you’re an avid gamer, you’re probably wondering what is going on with the latest gaming consoles and what do the major brands in the market plan on coming out with soon. Both Playstation and Xbox are currently in the process of designing their next generation of consoles. While companies like Google are moving more towards a streaming service.

Will the Nintendo Switch Have a New Console?

Two years ago, the Nintendo Switch made its debut to rave reviews and a much-satisfied fan base. According to The Nikkei Report, Nintendo is planning to release a smaller and more budget-friendly version of the Nintendo Switch this fall.

At the same time, there are also rumors that Nintendo Switch is working on a new and more powerful console. So, which is true? That is the real question. Despite all the hearsay, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furakawa stated, “We have no plans to announce that at this year’s E3 in June. We’re always working on new hardware and we will announce it when we are able to sell it.”

Google Will Have a Streaming Service

It seems that every major player in the gaming world will soon have a streaming service – if they don’t already have one. And, Google is no exception. Labeled Stadia, Google’s CEO Sundar Pichai stated that their streaming service will offer a variety of games which can be played on any device with the ability to run the Chrome web browser. In fact, Stadia wants to become the Hulu for games. Plus, you don’t need any additional hardware.

So, why would you buy a console when Stadia is just around the corner? Basically, all the games are run in the cloud and streamed to wherever you are. Instead of spending hundreds of your hard-earned dollars on a new console, wouldn’t it make more sense to simply pay for this new streaming service? Plus, you don’t have to worry about storage or theft for that matter.

In fact, some say streaming will be the death as consoles as much as streaming video content has been slowly killing cable. Of course, this won’t happen overnight. Why would Xbox jump off the console prototype, a device they have developed for over a decade? No, streaming won’t instantly kill the console. But, it will open the door for a new wave of gamers.

And, eventually, it may become the future of gaming. Is it really so farfetched to use virtual consoles, as well?

Xbox and Playstation Have Next-Gen Consoles in the Works

Here was the official announcement from Xbox chief Phil Spencer on June 10, 2018, “The same team that delivered unprecedented performance with Xbox One X is deep into architecting the next Xbox consoles, where we will once again deliver on our commitment to set the benchmark for console gaming.” According to various rumors, the latest Xbox console iteration should be compatible with every Xbox generation – that would be fantastic.

And, let’s not forget PlayStation also has something special for us in the works. Yes, PlayStation 5 is coming and it will change how a game can be played. In addition, the PlayStation 5 console is expected to have a new AMD CPU and GPU. Should be quite exciting.

Final Thought

Now that you know what’s ahead, are you still dying to buy a console right at this very moment? Perhaps the better plan would be to wait a few months for streaming or the next-gen consoles to arrive. Either way you should be fine going out and purchasing things like Xbox headsets, or a gaming chair, because these things will always be useful to your gaming experience.
